Nationwide Tax Consulting | IRS Phone Call Scam Alert | Tips to Figure Out Fraud

IRS continuously keep alerting individuals from the scam phone calls from robbers committed to stealing their money and information

If you receive a call claiming to be IRS saying that you owe money and threaten you with some kind of legal actions if not paid immediately. They might ask you for a prepaid debit card or wire transfer and you pay over the phone and later you realize that it was a fake call and till then the money from your account is gone and the IRS has no record of that money.

Before sending money over the phone, did you consider to investigate if you are being scammed? If not, Here we are sharing the tips from Nationwide Tax Consulting to spot a scam:

IRS Never Call First: Most important thing to remember that IRS never call you regarding the money that owes as they send you a bill through an email letter first. If you are receiving a call first regarding your tax issues with the IRS, consider it a fake call and do not share any personal information over the phone. Do not panic and ask the caller for the information such as Badge number, name and call back number and then immediately share those details with the IRS @ 800-829-1040.

You can receive an email from the scammers as well with the name IRS in their email address and here I would ask you to remember that official IRS email will come from the address "@irs.gov".

If you are receiving such fraud email from someone, forward at phishing@irs.gov.

Threating: A Scammer often threatens you that you will be arrested if not paid the balance immediately or can also say about deportation and revoking your driving license. Do not let that fear turn you into paying money to someone and again ask for the information such as badge number, name and call back number and end that information to IRS.

Pay Right Now: A Scammer will ask you to pay the balance right now or maybe they can lower the amount over call and this is fake. IRS gives you deadlines and tells you when is the due date so don't fall into such traps.

How to Pay?: The IRS will never speak about payment mode but a scammer will instruct you on how these balance can be paid. They would prefer wire transfer or prepaid debit card transaction, This is fake.

Credit or Debit Card Information: The IRS will never require the payment information via telephone and if you feel that you are going after your wallet to peruse off your credit card information via telephone, think of it as a warning and hang up.

IRS offers numerous ways to pay your debts but over the phone is not one of them.
